beta-titanium frames

UV400 protection optics

Beta-titanium is the spring-elastic alloy at the core of every solaero frame. 17 to 23 grams depending on the model, so you forget it's there under your headset. It withstands your headset's pressure without bending out of shape. And corrosion-resistant and hypoallergenic, comfortable on your skin even after eight hours in the cockpit.

TITANIUM FRAMES

Three shapes, one material: CAPTÆN™, STRÆTOS™ and HÆLO™ wear their fronts openly in beta-titanium — cool, precise, cockpit-ready. From the classic pilot shape to its angular reinterpretation, every metal frame withstands your headset's pressure without bending out of shape.

ACETATE FRAMES

NOMÆD™, VÆCTOR™ and SKYMÆSTER™ wear their personality in acetate — warmer in feel, just as uncompromising at the core. Under every acetate front sits the same beta-titanium core as the rest of the range: flexible, ultralight, skin-friendly, even after eight hours in the cockpit.

Titanium sunglasses for aviation and everyday wear

solaero is an independent eyewear brand from Berlin, founded in 2026 by Tim and Domi, two ATPL students. The idea came from a specific problem: after a few hours under a headset, almost every frame starts to press. And most sunglasses sold as pilot eyewear are polarised — which in a cockpit does more harm than good.

Why we don't polarise

Polarising filters cut reflections off water and asphalt. In a cockpit they work against the wearer: LCD and LED instrument displays contain polarising filters of their own. Two filters stacked can cancel each other out depending on viewing angle, dimming the display or making it unreadable. The FAA advises pilots against polarised lenses in its vision guidance — not a ban, but a recommendation. The same physics applies to navigation screens in cars and to smartphone displays. Our lenses are therefore non-polarised. They filter up to 85 % of visible light through filter category 3 and block UV radiation up to 400 nanometres.

Why beta-titanium

Beta-titanium is a titanium alloy with high elastic recovery: bend it and it returns to its original shape. For temples that means they adapt to the head instead of pressing against it — including under the headband of a headset. Titanium contains no nickel and is therefore hypoallergenic, which for anyone with a contact allergy is the difference between wearable and unwearable. And it is light: our frames weigh between 17 and 23 grams.

The collection

Six models, each in several finishes. CAPTÆN in the classic teardrop shape, 20 grams, 58–15–145 mm. STRÆTOS with squared lines, 19 grams. HÆLO as a fine round metal frame at 17 grams — the lightest in our collection. NOMÆD as a round panto shape with an acetate front. VÆCTOR in a trapezoid cut. SKYMÆSTER with a browline brow. All with a titanium core, all UV400, all filter category 3, all non-polarised.

Every frame carries its own type approval: weight, dimensions and lens curvature measured to the millimetre and published on each product page. No rounded figures.

Buying and shipping

We sell direct, without intermediaries. Orders ship from Teltow near Berlin, typically within 2–4 working days inside Germany and 3–5 within the EU. The statutory 14-day right of withdrawal applies. All frames are CE-marked and conform to EN ISO 12312-1.
